Prescribed For

Used in the palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
Reduces the amount of testosterone produced in the body
This may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Preparation::

Vial contains + sodium chloride

(A single-dose vial contains 113 mg of abarelix peptide in powder form, which must be mixed with .9% sodium chloride and injected intramuscularly.)

Dosing

· A dose of 100 mg of Plenaxis was administered via IM injection on Days 1, 15 and 29, then every 4 weeks. into the buttock/muscle

Side effects

· Hot flashes;
· Pain
· Sleep disturbances;
· Breast enlargement or pain;
· Diarrhea or constipation;
· Swelling;
· Nausea;
· Constipation
· Dizziness;
· Headache;
· Fatigue;
· Changes with or difficulty urinating.

About Abarelix

Abarelix directly suppresses luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion and thereby reducing the secretion of testosterone by the testes.It also inhibits gonadotropin and related androgen production by directly and competitively blocking GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland
